The Loctite LOC135541 is a Loctite Silver Grade anti-seize, aerosol, 12 oz net weight, 12 per case, also known as 76759.

Silver grade is the general-purpose anti-seize and understanding the grades is the whole buying decision. Anti-seize suspends metal particles in grease, and the metal determines the temperature range and the compatibility. Silver grade is typically an aluminium and copper blend with graphite — a broad general-purpose formulation.

What anti-seize does is prevent galling and seizing. When two threaded metal parts are torqued together, particularly stainless on stainless, the high spots on the thread flanks weld to each other under pressure. That is galling, and a galled fastener does not come apart — it shears. Anti-seize puts a layer of soft metal particles between the flanks so they cannot weld.

It also stops the corrosion-driven seizure that makes a bolt in an exhaust or a flange impossible to remove years later.

The point that must be made and rarely is: anti-seize is a lubricant, and it changes the torque-tension relationship completely. Torquing a lubricated fastener to a dry specification over-tensions it, and it will snap — sometimes on the spanner, sometimes later. Use the lubricated torque figure.

The aerosol format suits awkward access. 12 per case is trade packaging.
