Justrite JUS7150210 Type I Steel Safety Can for flammables Funnel 11202Y

The Justrite JUS7150210 is a Type I steel safety can for flammables with funnel 11202Y, 5 gallon, stainless steel flame arrester, self-closing lid, in yellow.

Yellow is the specification distinguishing this from the red version, and safety can colour is a genuine convention rather than a preference. Red conventionally indicates gasoline and flammables; yellow conventionally indicates diesel. Green and blue carry their own assignments in many schemes.

The reason this matters is that fuel mix-ups are expensive and occasionally dangerous. Putting gasoline in a diesel engine destroys it. Putting diesel in a gasoline engine is a bad day. On a site with several cans in a row, colour is what stops someone reaching for the wrong one — and it works at a glance, which is the only speed that helps.

Label the can as well. Colour is a convention, not a standard, and conventions vary.

The flame arrester is the critical component: a stainless mesh screen in the spout that conducts heat away from an approaching flame faster than the flame can propagate through it, so a flame at the opening dies there rather than reaching the vapour inside. Never remove it or use a can with a damaged one.

The self-closing lid closes automatically and vents at low pressure rather than rupturing in a fire.

The funnel controls pouring.
