Product Highlights
Description
The Jackson Safety JKS46148 is a NexGen welding helmet, ADF type, black, with an HSL (Shadow) shell, 4-1/2 x 5-1/4 inch filter, a 3.80 x 2.35 inch viewing area, shade range 4/9-13, and a lithium battery rated 485 to 823 hours.
NexGen is the filter series here, where the helmets alongside it in this range carry Insight cartridges. Both are auto-darkening filters at the same shade range and window size, so the difference lies in the cartridge's feature set and response characteristics — worth confirming against Jackson's specification for which suits your processes.
What both share is the ADF principle. A shade 4 light state means the welder sees the joint clearly, positions the electrode with the hood already down, and strikes — the filter darkens in milliseconds. Passive helmets require nodding the hood down blind after positioning, which is a skill, and one that fails at the end of a long shift.
The 4/9-13 range covers light TIG through high-amperage stick and gouging. Darker shade goes with higher current, and getting it wrong costs either eyesight over time or weld quality immediately.
The HSL shell is the narrow, confined-space design — slim enough to get into a vessel, with less side coverage as the trade.
Filter dimensions and viewing area differ: the cartridge is 4-1/2 x 5-1/4 inch, the window 3.80 x 2.35 inch.
