DiversiTech Terminal Butt 16-14 6217CX

The DiversiTech 6217CX is a non-insulated butt splice connector for 16 to 14 gauge conductors, used to join two conductors end to end in a permanent inline connection.

A butt splice is the correct method for extending a lead that has been cut short, repairing a damaged section of conductor, or joining a replacement component's factory pigtail to existing field wiring. The connector is a plain metal barrel crimped at each end, producing a joint whose current carrying capacity and mechanical strength approach that of continuous conductor when correctly executed.

The uninsulated barrel suits high temperature locations where a plastic sleeve would fail, such as furnace heat sections, heater compartments, and areas adjacent to hot refrigerant lines. It also allows heat shrink tubing to be applied, giving insulation properly rated for the specific environment rather than the general purpose sleeve supplied on an insulated splice. Insulation of some form is required, since a bare splice cannot be left exposed in an energised circuit.

Both crimps must be made properly. Each end requires full compression with a tool matched to non-insulated terminals; insulated and non-insulated crimp dies are not interchangeable. Confirm both crimps with a pull test before insulating, because a splice that fails later is buried in a harness and difficult to locate.

Applications include lead extension and repair in HVAC, refrigeration, appliance, and general electrical maintenance work.
