The DiversiTech 972KIT Superseal Total is a system sealant kit for treating refrigerant leaks from within the circuit.

Injected leak sealants are a genuinely contested product in this trade, and a fair account requires setting out both positions.

The case for them is practical. Some leaks are extremely difficult to locate, particularly in evaporator coils buried in an air handler or in line sets running through walls. Where the alternative is replacing a coil or an entire line set, and where the equipment is old enough that major expenditure is difficult to justify, a sealant that closes a small leak has real value to the customer.

The case against is also substantial. Sealants circulate through the entire system, and there is concern about material accumulating at metering devices, filter driers, and in recovery equipment. Many equipment manufacturers advise against them and some void warranty coverage. Reclaimers and other technicians may refuse to handle refrigerant known to contain sealant, and a system that has been treated should be labelled so the next technician knows.

The practical position is that sealants are a considered decision for specific circumstances, not a routine alternative to leak location, and the customer should be told what has been used.
