The Appion TZM1PK is a single pack of Tezom vacuum pump oil for refrigeration service pumps.

Vacuum pump oil is the component that determines whether a pump can achieve a deep vacuum, and it is the maintenance item most often neglected.

A vacuum pump works by trapping gas and expelling it, and the oil provides the seal between the moving parts that makes this possible. It also absorbs the moisture and contaminants drawn out of the system being evacuated.

That absorption is what degrades it. Oil saturated with moisture has a vapour pressure of its own, and a pump cannot pull a vacuum deeper than the vapour pressure of the oil inside it. A pump with contaminated oil will reach a certain level and stop improving, regardless of its rated capability or how long it runs.

Technicians frequently conclude the system has a leak when the pump is the limitation.

The remedy is changing the oil, and the interval is far shorter than most people assume. Oil should be changed after evacuating a contaminated system, after a burnout cleanup, and routinely rather than when it looks dirty, since moisture contamination is not visible.

Running the pump with the ballast open for a period helps drive moisture out of the oil.

Confirm the oil type suits the pump, change it frequently, and store containers sealed since the oil absorbs atmospheric moisture.
