DiversiTech Service Chemical Contact Cleaner

The DiversiTech 362-16 is a contact cleaner used for cleaning electrical contacts, controls, and components.

Electrical contact cleaners remove oxidation, dust, and residue from contacts and connections, restoring conductivity without dismantling.

The applications are specific. Relay and contactor contacts that have oxidised, control board connections, switch contacts, and connector pins that have developed resistance all benefit.

The most important selection criterion is that the cleaner must be safe on plastics. Many components have plastic housings, insulators, and connector bodies, and a cleaner that attacks them causes cracking and eventual failure. Plastic safe formulations are specified for this reason, and using a general purpose solvent on a control board is a good way to destroy it.

Residue is the second criterion. A cleaner that leaves a film attracts dust and can itself become conductive or insulating over time. Fast evaporating, residue free formulations are preferred for electrical work.

The third consideration is that cleaning a contact does not repair one that has been damaged. Contactor contacts that are pitted, welded, or have lost material through arcing need replacement, and cleaning them provides a brief improvement before the underlying condition reasserts itself.

Power must be isolated before applying any cleaner, since the products are generally flammable and the equipment must not be energised.

Confirm plastic compatibility, isolate the circuit, and allow full evaporation before restoring power.
