DiversiTech Definite Purpose Contactor C360A

The DiversiTech C360A is a three pole definite purpose contactor rated 60 amps with a 24 volt coil.

At 60 amps in three poles, this contactor serves large commercial equipment, and at this scale the arc drawn on opening carries real energy.

Arc management is what the contactor's construction addresses. Contacts are faced with a silver alloy chosen for its resistance to welding and its conductivity, they are arranged to separate rapidly, and arc chutes or barriers direct and extinguish the arc away from surrounding components. This is why a contactor should never be operated with its cover or barriers removed or damaged, and why substituting a contactor without equivalent arc handling provisions is unsafe.

It is also why manually closing a large contactor by pressing the armature, a technique sometimes used to test a compressor, deserves caution. The contactor closes and opens under hand pressure rather than spring force, which can produce a slower separation and a more sustained arc than the mechanism was designed for. Where this test is performed, it should be brief and deliberate, and the equipment should be isolated for any actual work.

Applications include commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, chillers, and process cooling equipment.
