DiversiTech Definite Purpose Contactor C330C

The DiversiTech C330C is a three pole definite purpose contactor rated 30 amps with a 208/240 volt coil.

Three phase equipment at 208 or 240 volts is common in light commercial buildings, and the distinction between those two voltages is worth care. 208 volts is derived from a three phase wye system and 240 volts from a delta system, and although equipment is frequently rated for both, the difference of roughly fifteen percent has real consequences.

A motor or coil operating at 208 volts on a nominal 240 volt rating draws more current for the same work and runs hotter. Where the supply is already at the low end of tolerance, the margin disappears. Equipment nameplates state the acceptable voltage range, and measuring the actual supply voltage under load, rather than assuming the nominal figure, is the check that matters.

For the contactor, a coil rated 208/240 volts accommodates both, but the equipment it controls may be less tolerant.

Contactors should be selected against the equipment nameplate rather than against the physical size of the unit being replaced, since outwardly identical contactors carry substantially different ratings.

At 30 amps in three poles this suits smaller three phase compressors and motors in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration.
