DiversiTech Contactor 3P 60AM TMX360A2

The DiversiTech TMX360A2 is a three pole contactor rated 60 amps with a 24 volt coil.

At 60 amps this contactor serves large commercial equipment, and the control circuit feeding a 24 volt coil on a machine of this scale is typically more elaborate than a residential thermostat circuit.

Commercial equipment commonly routes the coil circuit through a sequence of interlocks and proving devices: a control relay from a building management system, high and low pressure controls, an oil pressure safety on larger compressors, a freeze protection thermostat, a flow switch on water cooled equipment, and time delay or anti-recycle timers. Any one of these opening prevents the contactor energising.

The diagnostic consequence is that a contactor not pulling in on a commercial machine rarely indicates a failed contactor. Working through the control circuit systematically, checking for voltage at each stage in the series string, identifies which device has opened. Jumping straight to the contactor wastes time and, if the contactor is replaced unnecessarily, leaves the actual fault in place.
