DiversiTech Contactor 3P 50A 208/240V TMX350C2

The DiversiTech TMX350C2 is a three pole contactor rated 50 amps with a 208/240 volt coil.

Balanced current across the three phases is a useful diagnostic measurement at a contactor of this size, and it is easily taken with a clamp meter.

A healthy three phase motor draws approximately equal current in each leg. A measurable imbalance, conventionally regarded as significant beyond a few percent, indicates a problem: unbalanced supply voltage, a deteriorating contact on one pole of the contactor, a loose termination, a partially failed motor winding, or a high resistance connection anywhere in the circuit.

Current imbalance matters because it produces disproportionate heating in the motor. A modest voltage imbalance generates a considerably larger current imbalance, and that heating shortens winding life substantially.

Measuring all three legs at annual service, and recording the figures, builds a history that reveals developing problems well before failure. A leg that has drifted relative to the others over successive visits is pointing at something.

Where imbalance is found, measuring voltage at the contactor line and load sides identifies whether the contactor is contributing.
