DiversiTech Contactor 1P 30A 24V TMX130A2

The DiversiTech TMX130A2 is a single pole contactor rated 30 amps with a 24 volt coil, from the TMX series.

Single pole contactors are used where switching one leg of the supply is sufficient to control the load, which in residential air conditioning is a common and accepted arrangement. The compressor and condenser fan stop when that leg is interrupted, and the equipment operates normally.

The safety consequence has been noted elsewhere and bears repeating because it causes injuries. With a single pole contactor open, one leg remains energised all the way to the compressor terminals. A technician who opens a condensing unit cabinet, sees the contactor open, and assumes the equipment is dead is working on live conductors. The only safe practice is to open the disconnect and verify absence of voltage at the equipment with a meter.

Single pole contactors are also lighter and less expensive than two pole equivalents, which is why manufacturers fit them.

The 24 volt coil is energised from the equipment's control transformer through the thermostat circuit.

At 30 amps this suits typical residential condensing unit loads.

Applications include residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pump equipment.
