DiversiTech Concentric Vent Kit Horizontal Termination

The DiversiTech HVENT-3 is a 3 inch concentric vent kit configured for horizontal sidewall termination on direct vent condensing appliances.

Three inch venting covers the majority of residential condensing furnaces and many condensing boilers and water heaters. The permitted diameter is determined by the appliance manufacturer's vent tables, which relate appliance input, total equivalent vent length, and elbow count to a minimum pipe size. Working from the appliance outlet size alone is a common error that produces installations which fail on pressure switch lockout under adverse conditions.

The concentric termination combines intake and exhaust in one wall penetration, simplifying the opening and the weathersealing detail while fixing the geometric relationship between the two so flue products cannot recirculate into the combustion air.

Sidewall clearances are typically the constraining factor in siting the appliance and should be established before the location is fixed. Minimum height above grade and above the expected snow line, and minimum distances from windows, doors, mechanical air intakes, soffits, gas meters and regulators, and property lines are governed by the appliance instructions and the applicable code.

Plume behaviour also deserves attention. A condensing appliance discharges a visible vapour plume and liquid condensate at the termination, and siting one above a walkway, driveway, or an adjacent building surface causes recurring complaints and, in freezing climates, ice.
