DiversiTech 3P 40A 277V Contactor C340E

The DiversiTech C340E is a three pole definite purpose contactor rated 40 amps with a 277 volt coil.

Contactor mounting deserves brief attention because it affects both operation and service life.

Contactors are designed for a particular mounting orientation, and the manufacturer's instructions state it. The armature moves under magnetic force in one direction and returns under gravity and spring force in the other, and mounting a contactor in an unintended orientation can affect how reliably it drops out. A contactor that does not open fully leaves the load energised, which on a compressor means continuous running regardless of the thermostat.

Mounting position within the cabinet also matters. A contactor located where it is exposed to water ingress, to the direct discharge of a condenser fan drawing debris, or to the hottest part of an enclosure will have a shorter life than one sensibly positioned.

Adequate clearance for the arc chutes and for airflow around the device should be maintained, and the mounting must be secure. A contactor loose on its mounting will suffer from vibration transmitted through the equipment.
