CRC CRC03204 Lubricant 20 oz Clear/Light Yellow Aerosol Silicone Single Purpose

The CRC03204 is a single-purpose silicone lubricant supplied in a 20 oz aerosol with an 11 oz net fill, 1 each with 12 per case. It is a clear to light yellow liquid, classified extremely flammable.

Single purpose is an honest designation and worth reading literally. This is silicone, and silicone does one category of work extremely well: it lubricates and protects rubber, plastic, and vinyl without attacking them. A petroleum lubricant on a rubber seal swells and softens it; on certain plastics it crazes and embrittles them. Silicone leaves a slick, dry-feeling film and leaves the substrate chemically alone.

That makes it the correct product for weatherstripping, door and window seals, gaskets, O-rings, rubber bushings, vinyl and plastic slides, tracks, and belt dressing — and the wrong product for a heavily loaded metal-to-metal contact, where a moly or lithium lubricant is required instead.

Silicone's other defining behaviour is release: nothing adheres to a silicone film. That property makes it the standard mould release in plastics and rubber processing, and simultaneously makes it a serious contaminant anywhere painting, coating, printing, or welding occurs. Silicone causes paint fisheye, transfers readily by hand, and resists removal. Many shops that fabricate and paint under one roof ban it from the fabrication side outright.

The extremely flammable classification requires ventilation and elimination of ignition sources.
