CRC CRC03050 Lubricant 16 oz Clear/Light Amber Aerosol Molybdenum Disulfide

The CRC03050 is a lubricant containing molybdenum disulfide, supplied in a 16 oz aerosol with a 10 oz net fill, 1 each with 12 per case. It is a clear to light amber liquid, classified extremely flammable, with a flash point below 0 °F.

Molybdenum disulfide — moly — is what this product is bought for, and it works on a principle unlike ordinary oil lubrication. Moly is a solid with a layered crystal structure whose planes shear against one another under load. That makes it an extreme pressure lubricant: where an oil film is squeezed out of a heavily loaded contact and the surfaces gall, a moly film stays put and keeps shearing. It is the additive specified for slow-moving, heavily loaded, shock-loaded, and high-pressure contacts that hydrodynamic lubrication cannot protect.

The solvent carrier delivers the moly into the joint, then evaporates and leaves the solid film behind, bonded to the surface where it is needed.

The flash point below 0 °F is significant. This product generates ignitable vapour at any temperature it will be stored or used at, and the vapour is heavier than air. Ignition sources must be eliminated from the area — this is not a product to use near an arc, a torch, or a grinder.

Applications include heavily loaded pins, bushings, slides, gears, threaded rod, cams, chains, and press and forming equipment across manufacturing, mining, agriculture, and heavy plant maintenance.
