Williams SNPWSS-57TB Socket/Tool Set 1/2 Inch High-Grade Chrome Vanadium Steel

The Williams SNPWSS-57TB is a socket and tool set, 1/2 inch drive, 57 pieces, high-grade chrome vanadium steel, SAE.

At 57 pieces this is a comprehensive set, and socket and tool set is the phrase to notice: it includes the drive tools, not just the sockets.

That distinction matters more than it looks. A socket set without a ratchet is a box of sockets. The drive tools — ratchet, breaker bar, extensions, universal joint, adaptors — are what make it usable, and they are frequently the most expensive items in a kit. A set that includes them is a working kit rather than a component purchase.

Chrome vanadium is the steel and it is the century-old standard for hand tools. Vanadium refines the grain and forms hard carbides, raising strength and toughness together — two properties that normally trade against each other. It also heat treats predictably, which is what makes a production run consistent.

It is not impact steel. Impact tools are chrome-molybdenum, taken further toward toughness, and they are black. Chrome vanadium sockets on an impact gun shatter — Williams' own warranty states that using chrome-finish sockets on power drive equipment is a misuse that can result in serious injury.

SAE means imperial sizing throughout. Anyone working on imported equipment needs a metric set alongside it.
