Empire EPLE255 E255 Level True Blue Combination Square 6"

The Empire EPLE255 is a True Blue® combination square in a 6 inch size.

The 6 inch length is the specification and it defines a different tool from the 12 inch version rather than simply a shorter one. A 6 inch combination square fits in a pocket and works at bench scale — small parts, machining layout, joinery, cabinet work, and detail marking where a 12 inch blade is unwieldy and gets in its own way. Anyone doing fine work reaches for the small one constantly and the large one occasionally.

The combination square's value is in the sliding head. Locked anywhere along the rule, it provides a 90 degree square, a 45 degree mitre face, a depth gauge, a height gauge, and — the function that justifies the tool — a marking gauge. Set the head at an offset and the blade scribes a line parallel to the workpiece edge at that exact distance, repeatably, for the whole length of the piece.

True Blue is Empire's vial designation, referring to the high-visibility vial construction the brand uses across its range.

Accuracy depends on the head locking square and staying square, so a dropped square should be checked against a known reference before it is trusted again.

Applications include machining layout, joinery and cabinet work, fabrication, detail marking, and small parts inspection.

Users include machinists, joiners, cabinet makers, toolmakers, and fabricators.
