The Empire EPLE255 is a True Blue® combination square in a 6 inch size.

The 6 inch length is the specification and it defines a different tool from the 12 inch version rather than simply a shorter one. A 6 inch combination square fits in a pocket and works at bench scale — small parts, machining layout, joinery, cabinet work, and detail marking where a 12 inch blade is unwieldy and gets in its own way. The combination square's value is in the sliding head. Locked anywhere along the rule, it provides a 90 degree square, a 45 degree mitre face, a depth gauge, a height gauge, and — the function that justifies the tool — a marking gauge. Set the head at an offset and the blade scribes a line parallel to the workpiece edge at that exact distance, repeatably, for the whole length of the piece.
