A ratcheting box wrench is a genuinely useful hybrid and the reason is swing.

A conventional box wrench surrounds the fastener completely, which makes it the strongest wrench form there is — it cannot spread. It also has to be lifted off and repositioned after every stroke. In an open space that is a minor irritation. In a confined one, where the wrench can swing fifteen degrees before hitting something, it means lifting and reseating the wrench for every fifteen degrees of a fastener's travel. On a long bolt that is several minutes of nothing.

A ratcheting box wrench turns on the pull and slips on the return. The wrench never comes off the fastener.

Where it beats a socket and ratchet is thickness. A ratchet head plus a socket is a tall assembly, and there are places it does not fit. A ratcheting box wrench is a thin head on a flat handle, and it goes where the socket cannot.

The trade: a ratcheting mechanism inside a box head is smaller and weaker than a solid box. It is not the tool for breaking a seized fastener loose.
