Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPTCQYX30A is a torque wrench head, 15/16 inch, 15 degree offset box end, 0.560 inch Y shank, 12 point, maximum torque 160 ft-lb.
The 15 degree offset box end is the specification and it is doing two different jobs in one head.
The offset itself is the familiar one from combination wrenches: the box sits at an angle to the shank, which lifts the operator's hand clear of the surrounding structure and lets the head be flipped for a second engagement position in a tight space.
The box end is the more consequential half. A box surrounds the fastener completely — it cannot spread, and it contacts every flat. That makes it the strongest wrench form there is, and at 160 ft-lb that strength is being used. An open-end head at the same torque would be flexing its jaws.
Which is why the box heads in this range carry higher ratings than the open-end heads on the same shank: this Y-shank box is rated 160 ft-lb where the Y-shank open end is rated 99. Same shank, different head, sixty percent more torque.
So the head type is a capacity decision as much as an access one.
Apply the manufacturer's offset correction. An angled head still has an effective length, and an uncorrected setting over-torques.
