Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPTCQXXM27A is a torque wrench head, 27 mm, 0.735 inch X shank, 12 point, maximum torque 240 ft-lb.
The X shank is the heavy class in this range and the numbers show the system clearly.
A J shank is 0.425 inch and rated around 60 ft-lb. This X shank is 0.735 inch and rated 240 — nearly six times the torque on a shank less than twice the diameter. That is not a coincidence. Torsional strength scales with the cube of the diameter, so a modest increase in shank size buys a large increase in capacity, and the shank sizes in this system are chosen to step through the useful torque range.
It also means the shank is the honest limit. A big head on a small shank is a small-torque tool.
Which is why the shanks are physically incompatible. An X head does not fit a J wrench, and the geometry rather than the operator's judgement enforces the rating.
At 240 ft-lb this is structural and heavy equipment work — and the offset correction matters more here, not less. A large head has a large offset, and an uncorrected setting on a 240 ft-lb fastener is a large absolute error.
Apply the manufacturer's correction formula. Every time.
Twelve points engage every thirty degrees, which is access rather than grip.
