Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPTCQJXM24A is a torque wrench head, 24 mm, 0.425 inch J shank, 12 point, maximum torque 60 ft-lb.
Note something worth reading carefully: this 24 mm head carries the same 60 ft-lb maximum as the 11 mm and 14 mm J-shank heads in this range.
That is not an oversight. The limit is the shank, not the fastener. A J shank is 0.425 inch and it will take about 60 ft-lb regardless of what is on the other end of it — so a large head on a small shank is limited by the small shank.
The consequence matters. A 24 mm fastener frequently wants considerably more than 60 ft-lb, and an operator seeing a big head assumes big torque is available. It is not. Exceeding the head's rating breaks the head, and it breaks it at the shank, under load, with a wrench handle attached.
So the head must be matched to the torque required and not to the fastener size. Where a 24 mm fastener needs real torque, the X or Z shank heads in this range are the correct tools — 240 and 480 ft-lb respectively.
The other rule on any interchangeable head: apply the manufacturer's offset correction. Every head moves the fastener away from the wrench's calibrated length, and an uncorrected setting reads low and over-torques.
