Williams SNPTCQJXM11A Torque Wrench Head 11 mm 12 Point J 0.425 Inch 59 ft lb

The Williams SNPTCQJXM11A is a torque wrench head, 11 mm, 0.425 inch J shank, 12 point, maximum torque 59 ft-lb.

The shank designation is a system and it is worth decoding once, because it runs across this whole range.

Interchangeable torque heads come in shank sizes, and the shank size is a torque class. Reading across the heads here: J shanks are 0.425 inch and rated around 58 to 60 ft-lb. Y shanks are 0.560 inch and rated 99 to 160. X shanks are 0.735 inch and rated 240. Z shanks are dual-pin and rated 480.

So the shank tells you the wrench it fits and the torque it will take. A J head cannot be fitted to a Y wrench, and it should not be asked for Y torque — which is the point of the system. The geometry prevents the mistake.

The maximum torque is the head's own limit and it is independent of the wrench's range. A wrench capable of 250 ft-lb with a J head fitted is limited to about 60 by the head, and exceeding that breaks the head rather than the wrench.

Note also that every head has an offset that changes the effective torque. Apply the manufacturer's correction — an interchangeable head used without it reads wrong.

Twelve points engage every thirty degrees.
