Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPTCQJO18A is a torque wrench head, 9/16 inch, open end, 0.425 inch J shank, maximum torque 58 ft-lb, centre of fastener to retaining pin 2-1/2 inch.
The centre-of-fastener-to-retaining-pin dimension is the specification that makes this system work, and it is worth understanding because interchangeable torque heads are useless without it.
An interchangeable-head torque wrench is a calibrated handle with a socket at the end that accepts different heads. That is enormously flexible — one wrench, any head — and it creates a problem: every head has a different length, and length changes torque.
A torque wrench is calibrated for a specific distance between the handle's grip point and the fastener. Fit a head that puts the fastener 2-1/2 inches further out and the fastener receives more than the setting says.
The correction is arithmetic and the manufacturer publishes the numbers. The setting is reduced in proportion: the desired torque multiplied by the wrench's length, divided by that length plus the head's offset.
Skip that step and every reading is wrong, in the unsafe direction.
The 0.425 inch J shank is the size class, and the 58 ft-lb maximum is the head's own limit — separate from the wrench's.
Open end reaches a fitting mid-run where a box will not go.
