Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPSE-15-24 is a Bahco economy bowsaw, 24 inch.
Note the brand split: Williams in the brand field, Bahco in the description. The same inconsistency runs through the Bahco items in this range.
A bowsaw is a tensioned-blade saw and the tension is the whole design.
A handsaw's blade has to be thick enough not to buckle when pushed, because nothing is holding it straight. That thickness means a wide kerf, which means a lot of wood turned into sawdust and a lot of effort doing it. A bowsaw solves the problem differently: the blade is thin, and a tubular frame holds it in tension so it cannot buckle. A tensioned thin blade cuts a narrow kerf with far less effort.
That is why a bowsaw outcuts a handsaw in green wood by a wide margin, and why they persist in forestry and groundskeeping despite chainsaws existing.
The blade is a consumable and the frame is not. Bowsaw blades are hardened, cannot practically be sharpened, and are meant to be replaced — which is what makes the tool economical.
Blade choice follows the wood: green wood wants a raker-tooth blade with wide gullets to clear wet sawdust; dry wood wants a peg-tooth blade. The wrong one packs solid.
