Description
The Williams SNPQCG-150 is a Quick Clamp, QCG, 6 inch capacity, 275 lb clamping force.
The quick clamp is a one-handed tool and that is the whole reason it displaced the F-clamp for a great deal of work.
An F-clamp or a C-clamp needs two hands: one to hold the work, one to turn the screw. Which means it needs three hands, because the work needs holding too, and nobody has three. The result is the familiar performance of holding a joint with an elbow while turning a clamp.
A quick clamp has a trigger. One hand holds the tool and squeezes, and the clamp closes and applies force. The other hand is free for the work. That is a small change that alters what one person can do alone.
The 275 lb figure is the honest limit and it is worth reading. That is real clamping force and it is far less than a screw clamp of the same size will produce — a good F-clamp applies well over a thousand pounds. So a quick clamp holds things while glue sets or a tack is made; it does not close a gap or force a joint together. Using one to pull work into alignment is asking it to do a screw clamp's job.
The 6 inch capacity is the jaw opening.
