Williams SNPMSM-12HRC Socket Set 1/4 Inch High-Polished Chrome Shallow 12 Point

The Williams SNPMSM-12HRC is a socket set, 1/4 inch drive, shallow, 12 point, high-polished chrome, meeting ANSI B107.110.

Note a gap: no piece count is stated. The comparable 1/4 inch chrome set in this range lists 12 pieces. A socket set without a piece count cannot be bought — it is the primary thing a customer compares on. Obtain it.

ANSI B107.110 is worth explaining, because a standard reference on a listing is worth more than an adjective.

It is the American national standard for sockets and drive tools, and it specifies dimensions, torque performance, and proof requirements. A socket conforming to it will fit the fasteners it claims to fit and survive the torque it claims to survive — verified against a published specification rather than asserted. That is what separates a socket set from a box of sockets, and it is the answer to why two sets that look identical differ in price by a factor of four.

The chrome finish is an identification system. Chrome is a hand socket: hardened for wear, and correspondingly brittle. Williams' own warranty states that using chrome-finish sockets on power drive equipment is a misuse of the tool that can result in serious injury. Impact sockets are the black ones — chrome-moly, tough rather than hard.

The 12-point shape engages every thirty degrees.
