Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNPJHW23321 is a locking plier, 11 inch overall length, clamp jaw, 2-1/4 inch throat depth, 900 lb capacity.
The clamp jaw is the specification and it makes this a different tool from the curved-jaw and straight-jaw locking pliers.
A clamp jaw has wide flat pads instead of gripping teeth. That inverts what the tool is for: a normal locking plier bites into something to turn or hold it, marking it in the process. A clamp jaw spreads its force across a flat area and holds two pieces together — which is a clamp, and a very fast one.
The 2-1/4 inch throat depth is the number that decides whether it can be used. Throat depth is how far in from the edge the jaws will reach, and it is a hard limit. A joint three inches from the edge of a plate cannot be clamped with this, no matter how the tool is angled.
Nine hundred pounds of clamping force is substantial for a hand-set tool, and it arrives instantly — squeeze the handles past centre and the linkage locks. That is the whole appeal on a welding bench: aligning and holding two pieces for a tack takes no hands at all.
Set the adjusting screw so the jaws lock firmly rather than crushing.
Applications include welding, fabrication, and assembly.
