The Williams SNPBD-630 is a 3/8 inch drive deep socket, 6-point, 15/16 inch.

Deep is the specification and it exists for one reason: studs.

A great many fasteners are nuts on threaded studs, and the stud protrudes through the nut. Suspension, exhaust manifolds, machinery mounts, pumps, and structural connections are all like this. A shallow socket cannot seat on those — it bottoms out on the stud end and sits proud of the flats, contacting the nut only at its edge. Turned like that it rounds the nut, and the operator concludes the socket is wrong. It is.

A deep socket swallows the stud and seats fully on the flats.

The trade is stiffness and access. A deep socket is a longer tube, so it twists more under torque and it fits under fewer obstructions. Where a shallow socket seats properly, it is the better tool.

Six-point is the right choice here and worth noting: it contacts the flats broadly rather than nearer the corners. On a stud nut — which is frequently rusted, heat-cycled, and seized — that is the difference between turning it and rounding it. Deep sockets in 6-point are the sensible stock.

Verify the finish. Chrome sockets are hand tools and must not go on an impact gun.
