Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP8071RCUS is a Bahco chrome adjustable wrench, 8 inch.
Note the brand split: Williams in the brand field, Bahco in the description. The same inconsistency runs through the Bahco items in this range.
Bahco's claim on the adjustable wrench is historical and it is genuine — the modern adjustable wrench was patented by Johan Petter Johansson in Sweden in 1892, and Bahco is the company that descends from it. The tool in everyone's toolbox is his design.
What distinguishes a good adjustable wrench from a poor one is jaw slop. The jaw has to move, which means it has to have clearance, and that clearance is what lets a wrench cam off a fastener's corner and round it. A well-made wrench minimises it; a cheap one has enough play to destroy a nut on the first pull.
Which is why the tool has a reputation it partly does not deserve. Most rounded fasteners blamed on adjustable wrenches are a loose jaw and a pull in the wrong direction.
The two rules: set the jaw tight against the flats before pulling, and pull toward the movable jaw so the load goes into the fixed jaw rather than through the worm screw.
Chrome resists corrosion and wipes clean.
