The Williams SNP7-6144 is a socket, shallow impact, 1 inch drive, 4-1/2 inch, 5-5/8 inch overall length, black industrial, 6 point, drive end diameter 2-3/8 inch, working end diameter 6 inch.

A 4-1/2 inch socket with a six inch working end is a piece of heavy industrial equipment rather than a hand tool, and everything about it follows from the scale.

The 6-point shape is not optional here. On a fastener this size the torque is enormous, and a 12-point socket contacts nearer the corners — under a 1 inch drive impact gun it would round the nut, and a rounded nut at this size is a cutting job. Six points bear on the flats.

The 1 inch drive is a torque rating: it is the drive size for the largest impact guns, and it exists because a 3/4 inch square would twist.

The black industrial finish is the identification. Impact sockets are chrome-moly, heat treated for toughness so they deform rather than shatter, with walls thick enough for the shock. Chrome sockets are hardened for wear, which means brittle, and Williams' own warranty states that chrome sockets on power drive equipment is a misuse that can cause serious injury. A chrome socket this size failing under a 1 inch gun is not a minor event.
