The 10,000 psi figure is the specification and it is worth understanding, because it is why the kit is small and why it is dangerous.

Ten thousand psi is the standard operating pressure for portable hydraulic tooling, and it is what makes a 10 ton ram fit in a hand. Force is pressure times area, so an enormous pressure lets a small cylinder produce a large force. That is the whole trick — and it means the hoses, couplings, and fittings in this kit are containing a pressure that will inject fluid through skin.

Hydraulic injection injury is the hazard that people underestimate. A pinhole leak in a 10,000 psi hose is invisible; the jet is a fine mist. Running a hand along a hose to find a leak injects fluid into tissue, and the wound looks like a pinprick while the fluid destroys tissue from inside. It is a surgical emergency, and it is frequently misdiagnosed because it looks trivial.

Never search for a leak with a hand. Use cardboard.
