The Williams SNP4-6 is a 1/2 inch drive impact adaptor, 1/2 inch female to 3/4 inch male.

An adaptor that steps drive size up deserves a warning that rarely gets printed, and this one steps up: a 1/2 inch drive tool onto 3/4 inch drive sockets.

The rule is that the adaptor is the weakest thing in the chain, and it is weakest at the small end. A 1/2 inch square is engineered for 1/2 inch drive torque. Putting 3/4 inch sockets on it does not make it stronger — it just lets a 1/2 inch tool reach fasteners that a 1/2 inch tool was never meant to move. The operator, seeing a big socket on a big nut, applies big-tool force, and the 1/2 inch square is what breaks.

Stepping up is for reach and convenience on fasteners within the smaller tool's rating. It is not a way to make a 1/2 inch gun into a 3/4 inch gun.

Stepping down has the opposite problem and it is worse: a 3/4 inch gun through an adaptor onto 1/2 inch sockets applies torque those sockets cannot survive, and impact sockets fail explosively.

Impact rated means chrome-moly, tough rather than hard. Chrome adaptors on impact guns shatter — Williams says so in its own warranty.
