The Williams SNP38426 is a socket, shallow impact, 3/4 inch drive, 13/16 inch, 2-1/16 inch overall length, black industrial, 12 point, drive end diameter 1-1/2 inch, working end diameter 1-1/4 inch.

Shallow is the specification and it is worth explaining against the deep sockets elsewhere in this range, because the choice is not about depth for its own sake.

A shallow socket has a short body. That gives it two advantages that matter under impact: it is stiffer, so more of the gun's hammer energy reaches the fastener rather than being absorbed in the socket twisting; and it has a lower profile, so it fits under obstructions a deep socket cannot clear.

A deep socket exists to swallow a protruding stud. Where a bolt end sticks through a nut — which is most structural and machinery bolting — a shallow socket cannot seat, and a deep one is the only option.

So the decision is made by the fastener, not by preference, and a set needs both.

The black industrial finish is the identification: impact-rated chrome-moly, tough rather than hard. Chrome sockets are hand tools and they shatter under impact — Williams' own warranty states that using chrome sockets on power drive equipment is a misuse that can cause serious injury.

The 12-point shape drops onto a fastener in half the rotation of a 6-point, at the cost of gripping nearer the corners.
