Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP32027 is a 1/2 inch drive locking extension bar, 18 inches.
At 18 inches this is a long extension, and length on an extension has a consequence that is easy to miss: torsional wind-up.
An extension is a steel bar transmitting torque. Under load it twists — a little, elastically, and more the longer it is. That means an 18 inch extension between a torque wrench and a fastener stores energy as the wrench is pulled, and releases it afterward. It also means the operator's feel is muted: the wrench moves before the fastener does, and the hand cannot tell the difference between wind-up and a nut turning.
For torque-critical work that matters. It does not change the final torque — a click wrench still clicks at the set value — but it makes a delicate job harder to judge.
The locking mechanism is the other specification and it matters more the longer the extension gets. An 18 inch extension is reaching somewhere deep, and somewhere deep is exactly where a dropped socket is unrecoverable. A ball detent releases when the socket sticks to a rusty nut or the tool comes off at an angle. A positive lock does not.
At 1/2 inch drive this is a substantial extension for substantial fasteners.
