Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP31023 is a 3/8 inch drive locking extension bar, 3 inches.
Locking is the specification and it solves a problem everyone has met and nobody talks about.
A standard extension holds a socket with a spring-loaded ball detent. That detent is a friction fit — it holds the socket well enough for normal work and it lets go under a few specific conditions: pulling the tool off a fastener at an angle, a socket that has gripped a rusty nut tightly, or simple gravity when working overhead.
When it lets go, the socket falls. Into an engine bay, down a frame rail, into a gearbox, into the bottom of a machine — and retrieving it costs half an hour with a magnet and a torch, or it does not get retrieved at all. In aviation and turbine work, a socket that goes somewhere unrecoverable is a foreign object event rather than an inconvenience.
A locking extension has a positive mechanical lock: a collar or a pin that engages the socket and holds it until deliberately released. The socket comes out of the engine bay attached to the tool.
At 3 inches this is the short extension — the one for clearing a shallow obstruction while keeping the ratchet's feel.
Note the source data is minimal. Verify the locking mechanism and finish against Williams' specification.
