Williams SNP20544 16 Oz Ball Pein HaMMer

The Williams SNP20544 is a 16 oz ball pein hammer.

Note that the source data is minimal — no handle material or length is stated. The 12 oz hammer in this range is listed with a fiberglass handle. Verify before publishing, since handle material is a real specification.

At 16 oz this is the general-purpose ball pein, and if a shop owns one hammer for metalwork this is it. Enough mass to drive a cold chisel through steel, light enough to control on a punch.

The rule the ball pein enforces is worth stating on every one of them: never strike a hardened surface with a hardened surface. Hammer face on hammer face, hammer on a hardened anvil, hammer on a bolt head — any of those chips, and the chip travels fast enough to cross a workshop. Eye injuries from hammer and chisel chips are among the most common in the trades, and they are entirely preventable.

The related one: a mushroomed struck tool is a hazard. A chisel or punch whose head has spread into a mushroom is shedding those edges with every blow. Dress it back on a grinder or scrap it.

The ball is a forming face — for peening rivets and working sheet, not for striking.

Inspect the hammer's face too. Hammers mushroom as well.
