Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP151SM is a CDI 1/4 inch torque screwdriver, 3 to 15 in-lb, micro-adjustable.
A torque screwdriver exists because a hand cannot feel torque at this scale, and at this scale it matters enormously.
Three to fifteen inch-pounds is very light. It is the range of electrical terminals, instrument connections, electronics assembly, and small precision hardware — and every one of those has a specified torque for a reason. Too loose and an electrical connection develops resistance, which generates heat, which loosens it further; that runaway is a genuine cause of electrical fires and it starts as a terminal somebody snugged by feel. Too tight and the terminal is crushed, the thread is stripped, or the component is cracked.
The hand cannot distinguish 8 in-lb from 15 in-lb. Nobody can. There is no amount of experience that substitutes for the tool.
Micro-adjustable means the setting is dialled in on the tool rather than fixed, which is what makes one driver serve a range of specifications.
The rule that applies to every torque tool: store it at its lowest setting. The mechanism is a calibrated spring, and a spring left compressed takes a permanent set — a torque tool stored at full scale drifts out of calibration on the shelf.
Calibration is periodic, not permanent.
