Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP141 is a pipe wrench and universal plier, minimum pipe capacity 1/8 inch, maximum pipe capacity 1 inch, 11 inch overall length, alloy steel, serrated jaws, steel finish.
The stated minimum capacity of 1/8 inch is worth pausing on, because minimum capacity is a specification people ignore and it is real.
A pipe tool grips by biting into the pipe from opposite sides, and the geometry that produces that grip depends on the jaws being at roughly the right opening. Closed almost fully onto something far smaller than the tool's range, the jaw angle is wrong: the teeth do not key in the same way, and the self-tightening action that makes a pipe wrench work does not happen properly. The tool slips, and slipping on a small fitting means a chewed pipe and skinned knuckles.
So a pipe tool has a working range in both directions, and using a large one on a small pipe is a mistake in the same way as using a small one on a large pipe.
At 11 inches with a 1/8 to 1 inch range, this is the tool for domestic and light commercial pipework.
The serrated jaws mark whatever they grip. That is the mechanism, not a fault — but it rules the tool out on anything plated, polished, or visible.
Applications include plumbing and fitting.
