Product Highlights
Description
The Williams SNP13406A is an adjustable wrench, 6 inch, chrome.
The adjustable wrench has one rule and almost nobody knows it: pull toward the movable jaw.
The reason is structural. An adjustable wrench has a fixed jaw, cast as part of the head, and a movable jaw that rides on a worm screw. The fixed jaw is strong. The movable jaw is held by a small screw and a slot, and it is the weak part of the tool by a considerable margin.
Turn the wrench so the force pushes against the fixed jaw and the load goes into solid metal. Turn it the other way and the entire force goes through the worm screw — which flexes, opens the jaw, and lets the wrench slip off the fastener. That is why adjustable wrenches have a reputation for rounding nuts, and it is not the tool's fault.
Set the jaw tight against the flats before pulling. Slop in the jaw is what rounds a fastener, and an adjustable wrench with a loose jaw is a fastener-rounding machine.
At 6 inches this is a small wrench, and the size limits the torque — appropriately. A 6 inch adjustable on a large fastener is a bad idea in every direction.
Chrome resists corrosion and wipes clean.
