The Williams SNP100P-5MD is a 5 piece screwdriver set with slotted and Phillips tips, alloy steel, vapor-blasted tip and chrome blade, comfort-grip handle, made in the United States.

The vapor-blasted tip is the specification and it addresses the thing that makes screwdrivers frustrating.

A chrome-plated screwdriver tip is slippery. Chrome is a hard, smooth, low-friction surface — excellent on the blade, where it resists corrosion and wipes clean, and exactly wrong at the tip, where the tool has to grip a fastener and not cam out. A polished tip in a Phillips recess slides up and out under torque, and camming out is what rounds screw heads and skins knuckles.

Vapor blasting leaves the tip with a fine matte texture that bites. It is a small manufacturing step and it is the difference between a driver that stays put and one that does not.

That is also why the blade is chromed and the tip is not: two different jobs on one tool.

Phillips deserves a note of its own. It was designed in an era before torque clutches to cam out deliberately, as a crude torque limiter. That is why Phillips screws chew up — the drive is doing what it was designed to do. A gripping tip and full seating are the only defences.

Comfort-grip handles transmit torque without punishing the palm.
