Williams SNP1-210-12-3-0 Bahco Half Rd File 12" Smooth Cut 36 TPI

The Williams SNP1-210-12-3-0 is a Bahco half round file, 12 inch, smooth cut, 36 TPI.

Note the brand split: the brand field reads Williams and the description reads Bahco. Both are Snap-on brands, and the same inconsistency affects other files in this range. Standardise it.

The 36 TPI figure is worth reading against the 30 TPI second cut file in this range, because together they show what the numbers actually mean.

Named grades — bastard, second cut, smooth — are relative rather than absolute. A smooth cut on a 12 inch file has coarser teeth than a smooth cut on a 6 inch file, because the grades scale with the tool. That is a workable system and it is imprecise, and it means a customer cannot compare files across sizes.

Teeth per inch is absolute. Thirty-six TPI is thirty-six TPI regardless of the file's length, which makes it directly comparable.

The half round shape is the most useful single geometry: a flat face and a curved face, covering flat surfaces, concave curves, and the transitions between them. The curved face is the only practical way to open a drilled hole or dress an internal radius.

Smooth is the finishing grade — very little removal, fine surface.
