Worth noting against the 101 series in this catalogue: this 118 size 2 is rated 1-1/2 inch, and the 101 size 2 is rated 1 inch. Same nominal size, different series, fifty percent more capacity.

That is why series and size must be read together, and why a customer cannot substitute across series by matching the number. The tips fit different torches and they are rated differently.

The cutting capacity itself is a maximum rather than a target. A tip run at the top of its range produces its worst cut — a wide kerf and dross, which is the hard slag welded to the underside that has to be chipped off afterward. Dross is almost always a symptom rather than an inevitability: wrong tip, wrong pressure, or wrong travel speed.

The tip's condition is the other half. Cutting tip orifices are precise, and they get deformed by spatter, by contact with the plate, and by being cleaned with the wrong thing. A drill bit in an orifice ruins it. Proper tip cleaners are sized files that restore the orifice without enlarging it — they cost almost nothing and nobody uses them.
