Flange Wizard FLW70501 Torch Tip Standoff

The Flange Wizard FLW70501 is a torch tip standoff.

Standoff is the distance between a cutting torch tip and the material, and it is one of the few variables that determines whether a flame cut is clean or ruined. Too close and the tip picks up spatter, overheats, and eventually blocks — a destroyed consumable. Too far and the cut widens, the kerf ragged, and the preheat inefficient. Freehand, standoff is whatever the operator's hand happens to be doing at that moment, and it drifts across a long cut as the arm extends.

The standoff holds it constant. It fits to the torch and rides on the work, mechanically fixing the tip at the correct distance for the whole cut.

Its practical value is in the consumables as much as the cut quality. Tips are expensive and a tip damaged by contact with the work is scrap. A standoff protects the tip end by controlling that distance.

It is designed for use with magnetic torch guides, straight edges, and clamped guides — a torch riding a guide still needs its standoff controlled, and the standoff is what provides it.
