TurboTorch TBT0386-0170 Replacement Tip Brass/Alloy Propane

The TurboTorch TBT0386-0170 is a replacement tip for propane, brass and alloy.

The gas type is stated and it matters most. Propane and acetylene are not interchangeable in a tip. Acetylene burns far faster, and a tip's orifice is dimensioned so the mixture leaves faster than the flame can travel back into it. The wrong gas either blows the flame off the tip or lets it burn back inside — and a flashback running back toward the cylinder is the event that arrestors exist to prevent.

The brass and alloy construction is worth a note. Brass conducts heat away from the tip so it does not overheat, and it machines to the tolerances a swirl chamber needs. An alloy component suggests a wear or heat-resistant element where brass alone would not survive.

Tips are consumables. A tip with an eroded or blocked orifice produces an unstable flame.
