The Victor VCT0330-0006 is a 101 cutting tip, size 2, acetylene, brass, 1 inch cutting capacity.

Note a contradiction: this catalogue lists another 101 tip in size 2, acetylene, under a different part number series, in copper, with a stated capacity of 1-1/2 inch. Same series, same size, same gas, and a fifty percent difference in stated capacity. One of them is wrong. Verify against Victor — a customer choosing a tip by capacity has no way to resolve this.

The process is worth understanding because it explains everything about tip selection. Oxy-fuel cutting does not melt steel. The preheat flames raise the metal to its ignition temperature — around 1,600°F, well below melting — and then a jet of pure oxygen is released down the centre of the tip. The iron burns. The reaction is exothermic, so the steel supplies much of the heat that sustains the cut, and the oxygen jet blows the resulting oxide out of the kerf.

That is why the process cuts carbon steel beautifully and will not touch aluminium or stainless: their oxides are refractory and do not blow away.

The centre orifice size is what sets capacity.
