The tool has a fixed jaw cast into the head and a movable jaw riding on a worm screw. The fixed jaw is solid metal. The movable jaw is held by a small screw in a slot, and it is dramatically the weaker of the two. A 12 inch handle applies serious torque, and the direction of that torque decides where it goes.
