Product Highlights
Description
The Stanley STN43-524 is a FatMax box beam top read level, with a hang hole, 24 inch, aluminum.
Box beam is the specification and it is the distinction that separates levels that stay accurate from levels that do not.
An I-beam level is exactly that in section: a web with flanges. It is light, and it is torsionally weak — twist it and it deflects. A box beam is a closed hollow section, and a closed section is enormously stiffer in torsion than an open one. That is structural fact rather than marketing, and it is the same reason a closed tube resists twist where a channel does not.
Why it matters: a level is read by laying it against something and looking at a bubble. Any twist in the beam between the reference surface and the vial is an error, and the user cannot see it happening. A level that flexes tells confident lies.
Box beams also survive being dropped, which is how most levels die — not by wearing out, but by taking a fall that knocks the vial out of true. And a level that has been dropped should be checked against a known surface, because a level that reads wrong is worse than no level at all.
Top read means the vial is visible from above, for work at bench height.
The hang hole keeps it off the floor.
