The Stanley STN33-740L is a FatMax tape rule with BladeArmor coating, 1-1/4 inch x 40 ft, yellow and black.

At 40 ft this is a long tape and it is worth being clear about what that changes.

Length is not free. Forty feet of 1-1/4 inch steel is a lot of blade, and it makes the case big and heavy — this is a tape that lives in a bag rather than on a belt. It also retracts with real force. A 40 ft blade being pulled back by a spring wound for 40 ft is genuinely dangerous: it will take skin off a hand, and the hook arrives at the case hard enough to break things. Long tapes are fed back rather than released.

What the length buys is measurements that a 25 ft tape cannot take at all. Room diagonals, building layout, site work, and anything where the alternative is measuring twice and adding — which is where errors come from.

The 1-1/4 inch blade is what makes it usable. Blade width drives standout, and a narrow 40 ft tape would collapse a few feet out, which would make the extra length theoretical.

BladeArmor coats the first few inches, which is where every tape actually wears out.
