Description
The Simonds SIM73234500 is a second cut file, American pattern, 10 inches.
Note the same data gap as the 8 inch and 12 inch second cut listings in this range: no shape is stated. The surrounding part numbers are flat files and this almost certainly is too, but the field needs completing — shape is the first thing a buyer selects on.
The rule that keeps files working is worth stating on any of them: files must not touch each other in storage.
A file is glass hard. Its teeth are the hardest thing in most toolboxes, and the only thing hard enough to damage them is another file. Thrown into a drawer together, files dull each other with every movement of the drawer — not dramatically, but continuously, and a set that has lived loose in a drawer for a year cuts noticeably worse than it should. The owner concludes files wear out.
They do wear out, and they wear out at the work, not in the drawer. Rack them, wrap them, or slot them.
The second rule: never oil a file. Oil holds swarf against the teeth and turns a clean file into a pinned one.
Second cut is the middle grade and the most generally useful of the three.
